I had the privilege of spending several hours with the Pyrotechnics crew for the largest public fireworks display in the area, The 2011 Spirit of Kansas Fireworks show at Lake Shawnee.
My photographer friend, Shelly Zipperle, and I were up-close and personal with the shells as they launched. She has posted many shots on her Flickr stream.
