The world is changing very quickly. The common¬†incandescent light bulb is becoming somewhat of a victim under the aim of the modern ecology people. The classic light bulb is being replaced by CFL (Compact¬†Fluorescent) bulbs, and newer Light¬†Emitting¬†Diode (LED) lamps.¬†¬†I am not here to debate the finer details of these items. I have much¬†experience¬†with all kinds of lighting of every shape and sizes. Without too much typing, It would appear that LED technology has the advantage going forward. Colors without end, graceful dimming, low heat & IR emission, and ever better optics from companies like Philips who are making strides in making LED’s go the distance and look nice on flesh tones.

Tungsten, Halogen, Incandescent fixtures all have a natural warmth and¬†literal¬†heat. They will be missed, but someday, the lighting of the future will be widely available and be able to replace the classics. That day is not today, and CFL’s with their terrible color¬†temperature, poor dimming, poor light throw, ugly appearance, and liquid mercury are not the lighting of the future.

Today’s picture is of the new ‘decor’ type incandescents. These run at low wattage and provide¬†ambiance, not really much lighting. This one was installed at the local Outback Steakhouse. The newly remodeled¬†restaurant¬†is very nice, even if my $20¬†fillet¬†tasted¬†mediocre¬†at best. I digress, these new decor lamps are exempt from the ensuring ban on our much loved classic light bulb because they are considered specialty. Boo on regulation!
