The Copper Top

12 years ago the Kansas Legislature approved a project to renovate the state capitol building at a price of about $100 million dollars. Today the total stands about $340 million dollars. There are many debates to be had about the cost, however, I think everyone can agree that the cost overruns were incredibly high. I understand the finished project is pretty amazing. I am hoping our children will respect the incredible cost of this project and treat it right for many years to come since it cost $117 for each man, woman, and child in the state.

A neat side effect of the unrepairable roof is a pretty new copper dome. From what I heard this should stay copper colored for more than 20 years before turning the color I remember from my childhood, patina green. The image below was shot around sunset.
